Educational technology has a lot to offer students, parents, teachers and schools. It can effectively be used as a learning and teaching aide, and can be used to both aide in connecting subject material and student more effectively,a s well as giving teachers a greater opportunity to communicate directly with students. But this is only a part of what technology can do to enhance learning.
In addition to the internet acting as a means to make information more widely available and the communications between students and teachers more achievable, technology can do so much more. Take early child development as an example; It has always been the case that one of the most effective ways to get children engaged in learning is by making the experience fun. To do this, games have been used for generations to get children involved in learning basic mathematics, reading and writing, and although technology is performing the same function it has also worked towards enhancing it greatly as well.
Teachers are also able to use teaching aides inside of the classroom to be able to better communicate information to students and get them even more engaged in their education. From building power-point presentations which clearly depict important processes, to being able to inspire students to investigate subjects online by themselves; building engagement among the student body is potentially more achievable now than ever before.
For students, technology has also brought on things like tablet devices and laptops, and while some schools have been resistant to allowing the involvement of these relatively new devices, those who have allowed them have seen largely positive results. Eventually, we may well see the end of textbooks and writing books altogether, as students slowly but surely make the shift away from paper materials to digitally stored information. Ignoring the lower number of limitations offered by relying on technology, not needing to carry around so many books has proven to be of value in and of itself.
Technology has proven to be a more effective tool in learning than a wide variety of more traditional ones, and in a wide variety of ways as well. It can be used to build engagement among students more effectively, it can be used to help them to visualise issues and processes more effectively, and it can to access information more effectively. If you were to look at the areas in which our own advancements have fostered advancements in education, then besides the understanding we have in general, and proper management of the educational systems we have, then you could say that technology is potentially going to be the biggest driver of advancements in the effectiveness of education.
