Teaching maths in a fun and creative way

November 18, 2022 by Emma 0 Comments

It is a recognised fact that the way pupils are taught maths is a significant factor in their enjoyment of the subject and so it is important to teach maths in a fun and creative way throughout their school experience.

With the increase in mathematical apps available currently it is possible to enthuse pupils by encouraging them to play mathematical games and puzzles either in class or for homework. Using something that is popular with the pupils as a vehicle for their learning means that the motivation of the children will be increased. A maths game or activity based around a cartoon character or a children’s film will immediately raise their interest level and make learning fun.

If it is appropriate to take the children outside for a maths lesson the children will find this an exciting way to experience maths in the environment. Measuring the playground is a fun way to begin and objects collected from outside can be used as symbols to represent numbers when starting to learn about algebra.

Children love a challenge so setting a problem solving task for the pupils such as a maths treasure hunt or team competition can inspire them to work hard to solve the problem and a simple group reward will further motivate them.
